Banning online sales of e-liquid for e-cigarettes and new taxe

A new law banning online sales of e-liquids without nicotine for e-cigarettes will come into force in Belgium on 11 January 2024. This ban is the result of concerns about the rising popularity of e-cigarettes among young people and the potential health risks associated with their use.

E-liquids are the liquids used in e-cigarettes to be vaporised and inhaled by the user. Although some liquids contain no nicotine, many e-liquids are marketed with different nicotine levels. These nicotine-containing liquids can be addictive and have adverse health effects with long-term use.

The online ban on the sale of e-liquids for e-cigarettes aims to restrict access to these products, especially for minors. The growing popularity of e-cigarettes among young people has raised concerns about their potential effect on the health and well-being of this group. By banning the sale of e-liquids online, the government hopes to reduce the availability of these products to young people.

Besides preventing sales to minors, there are also concerns about the potential health risks of e-cigarettes in general. Although e-cigarettes are often presented as a safer alternative to traditional smoking, little is still known about the long-term effects of their use. By banning the sale of e-liquids online, the government hopes to reduce their consumption and thus reduce potential health risks.

The ban on online sales of e-liquids for e-cigarettes is expected to impact both consumers and sellers. Consumers will no longer be able to buy e-liquids online and will have to rely on physical shops. Sellers will have to adjust their business models to comply with the new regulations and only sell their products through physical shops.

With this new ban on online sales of e-liquids for e-cigarettes, Belgium is taking a step towards restricting access to these products, especially for minors. While the law may impact both consumers and sellers, the ultimate goal is to protect the health and well-being of society by reducing the potential harmful effects of e-cigarettes.

We would like to inform you of an important development regarding the sale of e-liquids. From next year, a new tax will be imposed on the sale of e-liquids. This tax has been instituted for several reasons, including promoting health awareness and addressing the potential health risks of e-cigarettes.

From next year, a tax will be in force for every millilitre of e-liquid sold. This tax will range between 0.15 and 0.20 euro cents per millilitre!  This measure is intended to increase the price of e-liquids, thus helping to discourage overuse and protect public health.
